A guide to Sustainable and Risk Management in Hotels

“Sustainable Hotel and Tourism Development” (SHTD) is the newest brand of RUES Hotel Selection EcoFriendly Hotels Worldwide. That is based on Eberhardt Rues’ pioneer and challenging projects on five continents since 1976 pursuing our long term objectives toward “Conversation - Education - Sustainable Tourism Development.” That focus on our philosophy “Working Together” and on its roots of the first “RUES EcoLodge and Private Nature Conservancy” in the Amazon in Ecuador, in 1976. SHTD is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting responsible tourism development projects around the world.

The Dual Education system is SHTD’s top priority in the years ahead, by means of implementing, training and learning centers at independent and chain hotels in conjunction with the launch of “Environmentally oriented Curriculums” at hotel schools and universities.

Today’s “global environmental and economic crises” require the integration of problem solving strategies within the hospitality and tourism industry. Rues would like to share his “hand’s on sustainable and risk management’ once in a life time experience” with hoteliers and experts around the globe: by means of offering consultancy in related topics. Based on Rues most challenging assignment: The reactivation of the former “El Salvador Sheraton Hotel’ in midst the Guerrilla War in El Salvador,” during 1983 - 1987; Risk Management in El Salvador.  And the aftermath of the Earthquake that registered seven on the Richter scale in San Salvador, on October 10,1986.

The universal issues of “Poverty Reduction by 2015”  and "Sustainability" are SHTD’s paramount objectives. Hence, we pursue joint venture projects and alliances for the launch of “Public, Private Partnerships” (PPP) with less fortunate/rural communities. With the aim for capacity building towards eco-agro and social tourism development . In conjunction with the involvement and support of EcoFriendly Hotels - small and large - Tourism, Universities, International Organizations and NGO’s. Thus we would like to invite professionals of different fields to join us in these tasks.
